Instagram thank your moderator
For doing a thankless job
In the past, there have been countless articles about the conditions we subject moderators to. Instagram and Facebook have had employees experience PTSD after seeing content that ultimately gets removed from the platform. I am not informed enough to give an opinion on the current state of content moderation work, but generally, it feels bad knowing that our tailor-made feeds are the byproduct of human suffering at times.
These people operate behind the scenes cleaning up and removing content flagged for any number of reasons. This got me thinking… what if there was a way to thank these people for their service?
There are likely a lot of security concerns with a feature like this, as I’d assume most mods don’t want to be doxxed to random Instagram users. However, some sort of anonymized feature to support mods, while less unhinged, feels like it has a place in these products. However, I’d assume this is pretty low on the list of priorities for most social networks.
