Losing a follower is hard. It’s like losing a friend (except not at all).

My social media accounts are now at a scale where I gain and lose followers constantly. This has helped me develop a thick skin. I’ve even learned a lot through polls (like the one you’ll see if you unsubscribe from this newsletter) which helps me tailor my work to the desires of my audience.

Newsletters are a pretty natural place for a feedback loop like this, but what if we took this pattern and put it into something more… public? This led me to a world where you can have people unfollow you on Instagram and then give a little bit of feedback about why they chose to stop following you.

There’s a world where this is helpful and another where it’s just plain mean. I opted to go the less hurtful route with this approach, but you could still see people giving a mean or superficial reason for unfollowing someone.
