iOS Bedtime

Go to bed, seriously

Screentime is something many of us struggle to moderate. I’m thankful to have a decent grasp of how much time I spend glued to my phone. My laptop is another story. Thankfully, apps like Clearspace (which I’m an investor and an advisor of) make it easier to set thoughtful restrictions on how much time you spend on your phone.

In the past, I’ve explored screentime restrictions based around walking more to unlock your phone, saying what you’re thankful for at Thanksgiving, and even brushing your teeth to unlock an app. Last night was late, and I started thinking about the little sleep indicator that appears when you specify a sleep schedule on Apple devices.

I’ll be the first to admit I rarely follow my sleep schedule. This got me wondering if I’d be better to go to bed if I literally couldn’t use my phone. Realistically, if I had set the restriction, I’d probably just circumnavigate it. I do wonder what would happen if someone else could set restrictions for you. This led me to create the concept above.

This concept, while frustrating at first, would likely help people build healthier relationships with their phones and help them get some much-needed rest.
