iOS breathalyzer test to answer calls
Potentially relationship-saving technology
Yesterday, I got to celebrate my birthday with my wife. I got a massage, went to a comedy show, visited a tiki bar with surprisingly robust non-alcoholic options, and generally just chilled out. It was a nice change of pace from my typical work-til-2 am grind.
Certain drinks at tiki bars have a two-drink limit per customer because, while they taste like juice, they can sneak up on you. I’ve been sober for a couple of years now, but being in bars reminds me why these limits exist. It’s a recipe for interesting, but often regrettable decisions.
This got me thinking about people who drunk-dial friends. Thankfully, I’ve largely been spared from this, but I wonder what it might look like if there was tech on an operating system level to help us monitor our BAC and prohibit certain activities.
For example, administering a breathalyzer test could limit someone’s ability to make calls after a certain hour.
This is one of those features that is both unhinged and useful. Yes, the tech doesn’t exist in phones, and having to take a test would need to be tied with location and/or purchase data, which would be annoying and invasive, but I’d venture to guess it could be genuinely beneficial for some people.
