iOS max sleep time

Good morning sunshine!

I don’t sleep much. This is bad, I know. One day I’ll catch up on my sleep, but today is not that day (however, I’m writing this before midnight, which is a win for me).

A crucial part of my day is the iOS alarm app. Without it I would probably sleep for a long time. That said, I sometimes wake up without an alarm due to stress.

All that said, it’s interesting to think about what might happen if we moved the goalpost in terms of the ideal outcome for alarm app users. What if, instead of focusing on empowering users to set their alarms, we optimized for a certain amount of sleep? You can imagine an experience where an alarm is automatically triggered once you hit a certain sleep threshold.

There would be riots if this got launched. People love sleeping, a lot and Apple taking an opinionated stance on this feels like a reach. However, people who love to sleep might get a bit more done…
