LinkedIn with Facebook relationship statuses for jobs
How do you feel about your current role?
Watching Brooklyn Nine-Nine for the first time (I’m aware I’m very late to the party) I am reminded of the concept of relationship status on Facebook. While demonstrating if/what type of relationship you’re in, “it’s complicated” always seemed like an unhinged option to me. That said, high schoolers who grew up while Facebook was still cool will remember when people changed their status and what a big deal it was.
Similarly, changing your work relationship is a big deal. However, the definition is much clearer. You are either employed or not employed be it full-time, part-time, consulting, or something else.
How people feel about their role however is something entirely different. You may have loved a part role and left it with a bittersweet feeling. On the other hand, trouble at work might have you feeling like “it’s complicated”. What if LinkedIn showed these labels on your profile?
This would be extremely interesting to people you currently work with and recruiters. To have any sort of public negative or even ambiguous sentiment about your employer is wild albeit very helpful for recruiters trying to get a temp check on whether or not you’re looking to make a move.
