LinkedIn final message after firing

One more thing...

Layoffs suck. I have survived 3 rounds of layoffs since my career started. I imagine that getting laid off is horrible, but there’s also a uniquely awful feeling associated with surviving a round of layoffs and having to carry the work forward. It' often feels like a part of a company has died and you need to move on even though everything feels different. This is exacerbated by how callously large companies handle layoffs.

The primary reason (as far as I know) that companies don’t give much rationale for layoffs is because they’re avoiding lawsuits. This is annoying for the (former) employee but makes sense from an employer perspective.

This got me thinking about LinkedIn. After leaving a job, you can still see your company and former coworkers throughout the app. This makes sense, but I wonder what it might look like for the “break” in the relationship to impact your experience on the app. What if you could send one final message to your team?

It’s not often I come up with a feature that feels purely toxic and irredeemable, but this might be one of them. I guess some people would use this to send one final heartfelt note to their team or share contact info to stay in touch, but I could see it getting nasty.
