Get rid of social media's most political users

I can’t believe the 2024 presidential election is only 9 months away. I was talking with some friends who are getting married this year. They opted to move their wedding to October instead of November so that there will (hopefully) be a little less political talk.

It is a sad reminder of how bad we are as a society at reigning in our agendas when we should be celebrating a happy occasion with loved ones.

This is especially apparent on any social media platform that you visit, and my guess is the temperature will continue to rise as we get closer to election day.

This got me wondering about some sort of social accountability mechanism to help people stay on their best behavior and more importantly a meaningful way to punish overly political users on both sides of the aisle.

This led me to the idea of “Political Purgatory”. In it, a user would be banished to an AI-generated feed where they can argue about politics til their hearts consent and then be brought back to the regular feed after the election.

I doubt this would ever get built, but boy are there some people it’d be fun to banish.
