LinkedIn "productivity score"

See how much someone's working

American culture is obsessed with productivity. The productivity software industry is in the 10s of billions and continues to grow. There’s productivity books, podcasts, and so much more. It’s exhausting.

I like to think of myself as a productive guy, but I don’t hyper-optimize every moment of my day. I’ll take breaks, watch TV an play video games at the end of the day, and instead of cold showers, I enjoy a nice bubble bath from time to time. Life’s too short to make it all boring and productive.

However, corporate America does not share this belief. At a high level, a free market is efficient over a long enough timeline. It will find the most effective way to get a job done, which means incremental optimization is constant.

To that end… we have the power of Screen Time to show what apps are being used by employees at all hours of the day. What if, to reward the productive and punish the slackers, there was a LinkedIn feature where you could see a “productivity score” based on how many hours someone logs using work software?

The outcry a feature like this might cause is obvious. I know employers are already using activity monitoring software, but the dynamic is brought to a new level if this information becomes public.
