LinkedIn skill dispute feature
Keeping people in check
Sometimes I forget about entire feature sets that exist within LinkedIn. Remember how you can add “skills”? I forgot, but apparently, 16 random people have endorsed me for the skill of Product Design. Pretty neat.
The idea of endorsing someone is cool in theory. The word choice is unique but representative of what you’re doing: vouching for someone else based on your experience working with them. However, you can only provide positive reinforcements for skills.
We all get to work with less-than-ideal people at times. Given this is an unfortunate reality of our professional lives, what if we were able to keep others around us in check by “disputing” a person’s stated skill?
This would be an absolutely insane feature, especially if the endorsements and disputes were public like they are currently. It’s funny how tiny changes like this can make a perfectly harmless feature extremely toxic. The details really do matter.
