LinkedIn Unemployment Collected

Workin' hard or hardly workin?

The job market is brutal. Mass layoffs. AI screening job applications. AI writing applications. AI writing email rejections. I’ve been fortunate enough to survive 3 rounds of mass layoffs at different companies, but they were always painful. I’m grateful to be in a position where our team currently has work aggressively knocks on wood, but I know that can change in an instant.

This got me thinking about platforms like LinkedIn. What if there were a way for people to see how much unemployment they’ve collected since they were laid off (or if they joined LinkedIn without a job)? I can imagine this would be a painful number for many people. However, this could be a dark way for some people to motivate themselves.

Given the privacy considerations, shame, and general unhelpfulness associated with a feature like this, I doubt we ever see something like this go live. However, it would make for a few very interesting days on LinkedIn if this did get shipped.
