McDonald's apology tour

Say you're sorry to yourself

I’ve been known to eat fast food on occasion, though I am a bit of a Taco Bell loyalist. However, McDonald’s somehow continues to reign supreme as the most popular fast food chain in the world, so here I am, satirizing their app.

When you order fast food late at night, the next day you often find yourself with a tummy ache or twinge of regret for spending $15 on a sad Big Mac meal. Thankfully, I haven’t known this feeling in years as a loyal Taco Bell customer. That’s beside the point though, given the universal nature of fast food regret, I wonder if there’s a way to introduce some healthy friction to mitigate this feeling.

One can imagine an experience where rather than ordering with the tap of a button, you need to record a video apologizing to your future self or at the very least explaining why you needed a Quarter-Pounder with Cheese at 2am on a Tuesday.

This type of friction would likely net significant health benefits for the user (and result in some unhinged apology videos), however, a restaurant would never do this as it shoots their business in the foot. Regardless, I’d love to see someone implement this, even for a day to see what would happen.
