Name a tropical storm after your ex
No, it's not petty at all
I’m currently on a weeklong vacation with family. To be fair, I’m trying to unplug but some work events will inevitably pull me back in at times. An unexpected hiccup in our plans this week is an insane amount of rain.
There’s a tropical storm brewing named Debby and there could be up to 30? inches of rain in certain areas. I’m not an expert on extreme tropical weather events but I don’t think I want to be close to the beach when this sort of weather happens.
I always wondered how tropical storms got their name. After one Google search, I learned that the World Meteorological Organization has several alphabetic lists of names that they rotate through to assign names to storms. While it’s nice to have a predefined system, I think there’s something to be said for allowing people to be a bit more creative.
What if there was an option for people to submit requests to name a storm after their ex? I assume that if this existed the problem would be figuring out which name to choose, as I’d venture to guess a lot of people would want to name a storm after an ex.
Maybe there could be a lottery system and the winner would get to share a blurb about their ex on the news. I doubt this will ever happen because it seems extremely petty but as a monetization angle, this could be incredible if they nailed the experience.
