Netflix auto-select feature
For the indecisive ones out there
I’m usually a pretty decisive guy. There is a Soprano’s quote where Tony says something along the lines of “more is lost by indecision than wrong decision. Drafting this newsletter I realized he was actually quoting Cicero. You learn something new every day I guess.
Anyway, this idea came to me as my wife and I were sitting down for dinner and a movie last night. Thankfully we almost always know what we are going to watch before we sit down to watch, but it got me thinking… how do more indecisive people cope with so many options?
What if, to “help” people who can’t decide, Netflix just chose the most popular show after a certain amount of time expires? In this instance, it would autoplay Love Island. Nothing would motivate me more to choose almost any other show very quickly if this were the case.
An interesting side effect of this ruthless implementation is that it’d likely boost the metrics of already popular shows. It could be a fun way to have people explore new content if the thing they were thrown into was more randomized/based on their interests.
