Netflix delay flights download upsell
Don't be bored when you fly
Hi all, apologies for the erroneous email text yesterday. Had a very late flight back to CA and ended up forgetting to write the email before I hit send.
Anyways… on to today’s content.
Back in the day, when I flew there would sometimes be those tiny little TVs on the back of the seat in front of you. Usually, you were limited to the content made available by the airline. Thankfully, with the proliferation of smartphones, you can now choose to watch just about anything while flying. All you have to do is make sure you download the content to be available offline in advance.
I tend to procrastinate in certain areas of my life. Downloading content for flights is no exception. For example, last weekend as I got on a plane I realized I needed to hit the download button or risk being bored for the last hour of my flight. Thankfully, right as we were taking off the download completed.
However, as I was waiting for the download to finish I got an idea… What if Netflix could somehow detect when you travel (or partner with airlines) and programmatically upsell customers on paying to delay their flight to allow their content to finish downloading?
This harkens back to Hairgate when Bill Clinton got a haircut on Air Force One that shut down two runways for an hour in Los Angeles. If this Netflix feature was available to the public, pandemonium would ensue.
