One cookie to rule them all
One feature to save billions of clicks
I still don’t think I fully understand what cookies are. I do however know that I’ve wasted countless clicks and taps accepting them on every type of website imaginable. It’s so annoying to have to continue to accept or decline these, especially when it seems like the design of the opt-in/opt-out banner never looks the same.
After a particularly frustrating experience this morning trying to navigate through a few news sites while traveling yesterday, I started thinking about a universal opt-in experience. What if there was literally just one big cookie and if you accepted it you never saw that stupid banner again?
I doubt this is actually feasible for any number of legal/regulatory reasons, but if it was I’d venture to guess A LOT of people would love to have a feature like this. Thinking about the collective time humanity has wasted looking at these banners makes me sad. Big cookies would fix this.
