Outlook boss email visibility
Ensuring quick replies
Lately, my work has involved a lot of emails. It feels like I’m juggling a million different conversations. To make matters worse, I have multiple emails. People sometimes text me about emails which makes threads even more challenging to follow.
Be that as it may, at least I don’t have to use Outlook. I’ve tried Hey, Superhuman, and I look back fondly on the days of Inbox, but at the end of the day, Gmail works just fine for me.
However, sometimes I fall off a thread and forget to reply. This always feels bad, especially when people follow up later to check in. If you, reader, are one of these people, I apologize.
But what if it didn’t have to be this way? One can imagine a world where rather than waiting for someone to reply, in apps like Outlook there could be a feature where you are prompted to escalate an email one level up the chain.
This would 1) create a strong negative reaction from many white-collar workers and 2) it’d likely decrease the average time it takes to respond. It would be annoying, but potentially a net positive for corporate productivity. However, if it devolves to people constantly emailing their bosses, it could be a drag on productivity.
There’s a reason this doesn't exist. Technically nothing is stopping you from doing this now, it’s just not hard-coded into the product. You have to intentionally be petter rather than receiving a prompt to behave this way.
