Patriotism for screen time
Seems like a fair trade

I never thought of myself as someone who was particularly patriotic. America is awesome. Taco Bell, Crayons, Batman, Costco Hot Dogs. The list goes on. For all the rad things America’s created, we’ve also made some pretty big messes on the world stage. I’m not going to get into all that, because you read this weird newsletter because you want a lil chuckle with your morning coffee. I don’t know enough about most things to provide a valuable opinion.
Anyways, let me stop yapping.
Patriotism has been weirdly appropriated by one political party. It’s strange juxtaposing this with the fact that I sang the Pledge of Allegiance as a kid.
This all got me thinking… what if there was a wake to bake patriotism into the hardware we interact with daily? You can imagine a screen time restriction where you have to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to get more screen time.
Some people would love this feature, and others would hate it. Most people would probably see it and think “weird, that’s annoying” as it feels wrong to mumble the pledge quickly under your breath on the subway so you can use TikTok.
I see no reason why Apple would ship this, but it’d be funny if they did.
