Pop Quiz at Checkout!

Taking the absurdity of ticketing platform fees to the extreme.

Gm to all my music lovers out there.

Yesterday I found myself thinking about the meme format, “oh you know X? name Y”.

If you don’t know what this means here’s a write-up. Essentially it makes fun of people who claim to know a bunch about something but actually don’t.

Thinking about this in a musical context, what might it look like to create an interactive discount experience that rewards people who actually know the artist? In keeping with Live Nation’s already insane UX, what if there was a timer to ensure people can’t just Google album names?

Initially I mocked up the design below, which provided a small discount for true fans.

After sitting on it for a while, I realized how funny inverting this would be. Ticket platforms are already notorious for high fees, so what if there were extra fees if you don’t know the artist?

Don’t reward the fans. Penalize the posers.

Subtle shifts like this are the things that can make or break products.

I hope no one implements a checkout this evil, but it would be cool to see someone create one that rewards certain customer cohorts.
