A private privacy policy

One reader at a time

Privacy law has evolved drastically over the last 15 years. I remember when privacy policies were easy to opt into during app onboarding. Then, over time, things got complicated. Between legal blowback and an evolving technology industry, apps and websites have more hoops than ever to jump through.

Regardless, app developers have gotten good at finding ways to exploit or circumvent these policies entirely. Yes, the App Store will likely issue a warning if you do this, but it’s unlikely they’ll pull your app unless you do something completely egregious.

This got me thinking about the current experience around privacy policies when I was driving home from band practice yesterday. What if, instead of a publicly accessible privacy policy, the policies themselves were “private” and only one user could read them at a time?

This would be a nightmare for large companies. Can you imagine the wait times for Facebook? Entire economies would be built around privacy policy line fast passes.

This concept doesn’t make much sense, but it would be wild to see the reactions if privacy policy access was throttled.
