Quote Quote Tweets

Happy Wednesday!

For those unfamiliar with Twitter, congratulations. You probably are mentally much healthier than those who are. There is a phenomenon on Twitter known as "quote tweets". The idea is simple: you can retweet an existing Tweet but add your own caption.

Theoretically this can happen in a never-ending chain that takes you down the rabbit hole. However, you need to do a lot of clicking or tapping to follow the trail. The current experience requires you to click on the quoted tweet to see if it is a quote tweet.

But what if quote tweets could be nested within quote tweets?

Thus, quote quote tweets were born.

While absurd, given the fever dream that was Twitter in November/December in the early Elon takeover days, I could almost see them rolling this out and then rolling it back once they saw how Pandora's box could be opened up.

However, it never happened and we are left to imagine what could have been.
