Reveal private Spotify playlists

For a small fee, of course

I remember many moons ago when Spotify was an app only available on desktop. It was amazing to listen to any song whenever you wanted to. It was back when iTunes was the incumbent and many smaller artists had not moved to Spotify yet.

There was a feature I always found weird in the early days of Spotify. You could see the listening activity of people you knew on Facebook. This is cool in theory, but weird if someone wants to listen to something without it being publicly scrutinized. As someone who can listen to Weird Al, DMX, and Garth Brooks in one day I always preferred to not share my activity with the world.

After talking with my friend Josh Rozin, I took some time to visualize what it might look like if you could pay a small view to take a look at people’s private playlists. The obvious fast-follow to this is some sort of insurance individual users could pay to “protect” their playlists from the scrutiny of others. My guess is this would cause a lot of chaos and frustration and not provide much value, but it could be pretty funny at times.
