Robinhood "I'm feeling lucky" button

For my degenerate readers

Just when I thought the stock market was starting to normalize after the insanity that was 2020 and 2021, yesterday happened. For those who aren’t terminally online, you likely missed Gamestop stock popping up nearly 74% yesterday when Roaring Kitty, the person who played an outsized role in the short squeeze of 2021, Tweeted for the first time in months.

If this was 2021 and I had unlimited time to peruse the stock market, you might catch me trading some Gamestop stock. At my lowest, I may have traded derivatives rather than making pure stock trades. For the most part, I stuck with credit spreads. You can rationalize this away as an investment strategy, but at the end of the day, it’s essentially gambling with extra mental gymnastics.

Sometimes I miss the adrenaline rush of checking your portfolio when the market opens to see if you’re up or down 100%, but then I remember that I have a family to care for and am glad I mainly invest in index funds.

This all got me thinking… if I did want to get back into options but didn’t have the time to do proper due diligence, it might be nice to have an “I’m feeling lucky” button where I could choose an options contract with one tap.

This would be a great win for Robinhood given the money they make off the spread of derivatives trades, but it’s a compliance nightmare. Maybe some brazen entrepreneur will build a version of this, but I doubt it.
