Robinhood leaderboard rank

"How am I doing?"

The stock market is down bad. I’m writing this on Sunday; when people receive this newsletter, it’ll likely be down even more. A myriad of geopolitical events are tanking the market, and though I’d love to sink my teeth into the nuances of global trade, fiscal policy, and public and private markets, I have a creative agency to run.

I largely invest in broad-based index funds and a little bit in FAANG augmented with some AI and cybersecurity stocks. Like most people's, my portfolio is down, but that’s life when you invest in stocks. Hopefully, they go back up at some point. In the meantime, I’ll keep dollar-cost-averaging.

All of the thrash got me thinking about apps like Robinhood and how most of their users are likely hurting at the moment. What if we benchmarked portfolio performance against other users? The idea of a public-facing rank is wild, but it’d be fun and potentially a shareable moment.

This isn’t a great idea, but it’s not the most unhinged thing I’ve ever proposed. There’s a world where I could see Robinhood implementing something like this and getting decent engagement from it.
