Screentime spouse lock feature

Get off your phone honey

Many people (myself included) spend too much time on our phones. This is by design, as products are often hyper-engineered to be addicting.

Thankfully apps like ScreenTime, or more specialized apps like ClearSpace help people reclaim their attention back. By setting restrictions you can start to get a sense of where you spend your time on-device, and hopefully over time reduce that and/or allocate your attention in places you actually want rather than mindlessly scrolling social feeds you’ve already seen.

But maybe you need a little help from an accountability partner. Or maybe… your partner wants you to stop using an app that you love.

Introducing: ScreenTime spouse lock feature. You could imagine a world where the iOS family sharing function extends into the world of screen restrictions. You could limit how much time your partner spends on YouTube or Instagram.

This would probably cause a lot of fights, but I think there’s actually something pretty interesting here. You could see a world where you limit the time your kid spends on TikTok while encouraging the use of more educational apps.

At some point this starts to feel controlling, but there’s some utility to this I.
