Self-aware Face ID

Helping you make better decision in all areas of life

Yesterday I watched an insane demo from Figure about their new AI-powered robot that can respond to voice commands to complete complex tasks like finding you food, cleaning up trash, and putting away dishes. I thought we were at least a few years away from this world, but it seems like it’s here now.

On one hand, if I can say, “Hey Figure, can you clean up the dishes?” that would be awesome, but at the same time, it feels like at scale this will eradicate a lot of work once the technology gets good enough. This isn’t inherently a bad thing, but it does make me wonder what humans will… do.

This all got me thinking about other areas where AI could have a stronger footprint. Siri and general iOS interactions were something that immediately came to mind. Things like Face ID have inherent utility and make it easier to access the information we look at daily like banking details, stock prices, and more. I wonder what life might be like if Face ID/Siri was self-aware and provided its opinion on our app use.

You could imagine a world where you go to open a dating app and it asks you if you’re sure that’s what you want to do. This would be disruptive and invasive, but it also might make you think twice before making a bad decision. Interestingly, I use an interruption app like this (Clearspace) on my own volition, but something about it being a default-on experience feels especially bad.
