Slack Culture Score
Figure out if they're a fit or not
Every company has a unique culture. Google and Facebook have historically been known for their strong engineering cultures. Apple, Stripe, Airbnb, and Spotify have made a name for themselves with strong design cultures (obviously they have great engineers too).
These are examples of disciplines that define a company’s culture. Some startups use the word culture in a way that is interchangeable with “vibe”. If you’ve worked in tech for any time, you’ve likely heard of instances where people parted ways with a company because they “weren’t a culture fit”. Sometimes this is simply a person not vibing well with leadership as a startup. I strongly dislike this terminology. Also, I’m not an expert on employment law, but I’m not sure culture fit is a reasonable grounds for termination.
That said, we’ve all worked with people who seemed to not fit in with their peers. To that end… what if there was a culture score that could be defined by peer feedback in Slack? If your score dips too low, maybe a poll is taken to see if you should get let go.
This is a problematic concept for oh so many reasons, but at the same time people are already doing this but without the hard data this feature would provide.
