Slack holiday fire button
Protect your work-life balance
If you work in startups, the service industry, for yourself, or in e-commerce, you’re likely familiar with having to work on the holidays. As a “knowledge worker,” I am lucky to have the ability to go offline for the day and enjoy some turkey, stuffing, and time with family.
However, I bet that there will be a few of you (and maybe me if I’m especially unlucky) who receive some sort of work communication tomorrow. It’s annoying to have to deal with people who can’t set appropriate boundaries in terms of work-life balance.
What if instead of letting people simply get away with slacking you on a holiday, there was a way to punish them? You could see a world where you dock someone’s pay, exclude them from certain work conversations, or even worse, flat-out fire them.
This would be a very unhinged feature, but at the same time, it would be a way to force people to think twice before they send you a message when you’re trying to relax. I’d love some way to protect my time during the holidays.
