Slack holiday SWAT feature

Enjoy your holiday... or else

After escaping the corporate world, the number of Slack messages I received dropped dramatically. However, a lot of my work is with startups. As a result, there is little to no understanding or appreciation for national holidays.

On one hand, I empathize with business owners and operators trying to make their dreams happen. However, I would like to kick back and enjoy a hot dog and some Diet Coke on Memorial Day, but instead, I’ll spend a portion of it pushing pixels and on Slack.

Just because I have to work doesn't mean anyone who works for me should though. Learning to help create boundaries for team members is a new muscle I’m still working on training. This got me thinking about today's American holiday and how annoying it might be to get unexpected work messages.

What if, to mitigate this, you could deploy a SWAT team to do a raid on someone’s home if they send you work messages during the holidays? I imagine people would think twice about whether or not the message is important.

I’d venture to guess the government would frown on this feature, as it takes resources away from arguably more important work that SWAT teams could be doing, but hey, if a gamer can get swatted, then I could see it happening for your average tech employee too.
