Snapchat pay to remove filters

Who are you, really?

Good morning and happy Wednesday.

TikTok recently unveiled their new filter technology that makes you look more “youthful”. It stirred up a bit of controversy. This got me thinking about an idea I'd had for SnapChat (which also uses features to alter your appearance).

What if you could pay to opt-out of filters to see what people really look like?

There are... a lot of follow up questions. Who sets the price? Is it variable based on follower count? Does part of that money go towards the person who posts in the first place? Why are we charging for this feature? In fact, why are we asking people to aspire to unrealistic body standards?

That got a bit existential, but the fact it feels novel to revert to tech that shows what we really look like feels bleak.

Food for thought I guess.
