Split a Seat on United
For when a whole seat is just a little too much
Happy Friday. The weekend is almost upon us.
As I was cramming myself onto a plane like a sardine yesterday I thought about the rise and fall of airline seating quality over the last century. Maybe I’m looking at the past with rose-colored glasses, but to think you used to be able to eat a full meal with real silverware in a comfortable chair is absolutely insane to me. Now you’re lucky to get coffee and a Biscoff cookie (which are so good).
Since the pendulum has swung in the opposite direction and we try to maximize the number of people we can cram into a plane I asked myself, “what would happen if there was a half seat feature?”. People would get less space but a cheaper ticket.
Due to the hardware costs and the FAA, I sincerely hope this idea never takes off (see what I did there). Whatever the case, as a 6’6 human the experience itself sounds hellish.
Designing this was simple. All I had to do was grab a screenshot from the United app, replace the standard Square seat with two smaller seats, make the sheet at the bottom and write some copy.
So what do you say? If the price was right would you take a half seat?
