Spotify Artist Limits

Curbing obsessive fans enthusiasm

Weird Al is pretty great (speaking from experience as I saw him live last year). In addition to essentially creating a new genre of music, he also puts on a pretty great live set.

However, his fans can be a bit… obsessive. Sure, I might be guilty of this from time to time, but I like to think I have balance overall. Some people don’t have the self-control to moderate though. It’s a fairly universal experience to listen to the same song over and over again from time to time, and pulling out of this cycle is hard.

What if Spotify “helped” you with this by locking an artist once you listen to them too much? Essentially, this is screen time for music. The benefit of this (if you can call it that) is you’re forced to listen in moderation and explore other artists. However, it unfairly punishes artists with hardcore fans.

This would never get built, but some sort of moderation pattern like this is an interesting thought experiment at least.
