Spotify Christmas Music Lock
No more Christmas in July
As I get older, time continues to move faster and faster. It seems like a few days ago it was April and now it’s almost August. This means fall and the associated holidays are just around the corner. In fact, my wife has already started shopping for Halloween decor. Maybe this year we can get one of those 8 feet skeletons. Who knows.
I digress. With the holidays comes a resurgence of holiday music. It seems like Christmas music plays earlier and earlier each year. Maybe it’s just me, but my tin foil hat theory is that corporations are pushing forward the shopping windows earlier and earlier in the name of increasing shareholder value.
Regardless, Mariah Carey’s All I Want for Christmas is You will haunt my ears later this year. Most people don’t listen to this music out of season, but that’s not always the case.
What if we made the holidays more precious by “locking” holiday music when it is out of season? If you open Spotify and hit the Michael Bublé Christmas album, you wouldn’t be able to until after Thanksgiving.
While this would cause swift and significant backlash, it would also exacerbate the massive lift in monthly listeners they already experience during the holidays.
