Square Point of Sale alternate tip methods

This morning I’m meeting a friend at a coffee shop and doing some work beforehand. Every time I see the Square Point of Sale tip screen, I’m reminded of the wildly different tipping culture in the United States versus other countries. This confusion is compounded by the fact that some cities and restaurants have service charges or staff fees, should tip there too? Is it rude to? It’s all so confusing (though I generally opt to tip).

What if you’re strapped for cash? The economy is tight for many people, and this got me thinking about alternative ways to show appreciate for a service worker’s help. What if you could give them a lil hug or fist bump?

If ever there was a way to optimize design for lawsuits, this is it. People would lose their minds (rightfully so) if this got shipped, and there’s no way the company I used to work at would ever launch this, but it’s wild to imagine something like this being real.
