Starbucks BYOB option

Be Your Own... Barista

It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Yes, Christmas music is back, but more importantly, Christmas drinks are back at Starbucks. Despite rampant inflation that refuses to quit, I find myself going back to Starbucks far too often to secure a Gingerbread Latte or Sugar Cookie Iced Coffee. Am I feeding a crippling dependency on caffeine with unhealthy sugary drinks? Yes. Yes, I am.

Because I’m both an early bird and a night owl, I have the luxury of usually beating the morning rush when I pick up my coffee. However, if I let myself sleep in and pick up a coffee closer to 9… I can often find myself waiting 10, 20, or even 30 minutes for a drink.

It doesn’t need to be this way, does it? I was struggling to find an idea last night and as I looked back through old concepts I thought 1. that I hadn’t done a Starbucks one in a while and 2. the acronym BYOB popped into my head. Bring Your Own Booze, Build Your Own Business… Be Your Own Barista?

What if you could claim a discount if Starbucks simply set aside your ingredients and forced you to make your drink? To be fair, a million logistics questions immediately come to mind. Can I use their store to make the drink? Do I get an apron? If I do this enough times will they have to put me on payroll?

The hypothetical situation this creates is wild, and it would significantly disrupt what is typically a fairly well-oiled machine as far as I’m concerned.
