Starbucks Electrical Outlet Upsell

Monetize everything, always

From 2017 to 2019, I pretty much lived at Starbucks. Living in a rat-infested house was one of many suboptimal office environments I experienced while working remotely.

To Starbuck's credit, they have won a relatively loyal customer. If my local shop isn’t open or I’m on the road, catch me at Starbucks.

Part of the appeal is the access to power and wifi. In recent years, I know it’s become a bit of a problem with people who stay there for too long, but I figure if you order a coffee or two it’s no harm done.

That said, Spotify is sitting on a massive untapped revenue opportunity: paid access to power. Even a small cost would deter freeloaders and attract remote workers. It feels like a win-win situation.

On the other side, if you are desperate to charge your phone and don’t have a few bucks to spare, Starbucks might be your only option. This ruins that.
