Starbucks Energy Level Option

How might we help customers stay more awake?

Recently I’ve become obsessed with my local coffee shop, Bad Coffee (great name, right?). I was sad to find out recently they will be closing this somewhere and I’m going to have to find my espresso tonics elsewhere. Really going to miss them when they close.

Looking at my relationship with coffee, I oscillate between feeling like an aficionado and drinking it merely for functional purposes. There are a lot of people who need caffeine to function. While it is easy to add an extra shot of espresso to a drink at Starbucks, it always feels like I put either too much or not enough into my drink. I just can’t find the right balance with their preset options.

What if instead of having fixed values we leaned into people’s need for specific amounts of caffeine and allowed them to specify exactly how much they want in a drink? Call it “Energy level”. This would allow for much more granular control for the user and it could lead to more accurate and customizable distribution of caffeine.

The question this begs is… how much is too much?
