Stopify goal-based playlists

I want to...

I love music. I grew up playing bass and trombone, and then bass trombone. I’ve played in concert bands, jazz bands, orchestras, and toured a little bit (would do more of this, but sleeping on the floor of a La Quinta Inn with 5 other guys isn’t very glamorous). It’s a passion of mine, though I’ve come to grips with the fact that it’s no way to make a living unless you are very good and/or very lucky.

Though I don’t play as much as I used to, I still listen to music all the time. I’ve been a loyal Spotify customer for over 10 years. As the platform’s evolved, I’ve noticed they push me to continuously listen to the same songs. I need to actively push to discover new music. It shouldn’t be this way.

What if Spotify took a different approach? Rather than curating music by vibe or genre, they could curate by an underlying goal, be it learning the alphabet or scaring away party guests. This is a strange, utilitarian way to think about music, but it’s interesting.

I’m not sure how useful this would be (except for very niche audiences), but the thread’s fun to pull on.
