TikTok Tomato Live Stream

Pelt creators with tomatoes

TikTok is a strange part of the internet. I feel sometimes like I was born too late to understand millennials, but not late enough to get Gen Z. This hypothesis has recently been validated with the TikTok live stream “ice cream gang gang” incident that blew up on Twitter.

A TikToker named “Pinkydoll” has gone viral for streaming and saying things like “slurp ice cream so good yes yes yes slurp gang gang”

This reads a gibberish to me, but apparently what’s happening is you can buy gifts during a live stream on TikTok. Things like ice cream, roses, etc. are quite cheap (less than a dollar) and Pinkydoll will simply voice back the gifts that are received in real time. Given that tens of thousands of people are turning in, things get chaotic pretty quickly.

To be honest, I’m still trying to wrap my head around what’s going on, but it did get me thinking… What if you don’t like the live stream and want to let the creator know?

This led me down the path of a TikTok option to throw tomatoes at a creator. TikTok employees could be standing by ready to ruin a live stream if you’re willing to pay enough.

I can’t necessarily advocate for this experience because A) it’s mean and B) there’s apparently a tomato shortage so for now we’re just going to have to deal with the absurdity that is TikTok.

Have a friend who is as confused by TikTok as I am?
