Tinder AI

A not unlikely, dystopian outcome

It’s ironic that, despite being more digitally connected than ever, it’s increasingly difficult for us as a society to find people to form long-term relationships with. This merits an entire essay on its own. Here we stick with talking about silly UIs.

The implications of dating in a digital world, much less a world flooded with hyper-realistic AI content, are vast and complicated. We’ve been so busy building, I don’t think enough people have stepped back to ask what’s going to happen when we accomplish our goal (whatever that goal is). I digress, the launch of Midjourney video felt like yet another watershed moment in terms of democratizing hyper-realistic AI video content.

This got me thinking about products like Tinder. In a world where AI is readily available, what opportunities are there for users who are in particularly high demand? I can imagine a scenario where Tinder scaffolds a feature allowing users to train an AI on their photos and chat history in order to create a bot that people can interact with.

In addition to being an ethical and legal nightmare, this starts to step into OnlyFans territory. I don’t like that this could be a huge potential business opportunity for Tinder if it were properly positioned (more likely a messaging assistant for people with lots of inbound). Either way, it feels bleak.
