Tinder contacts overlap

Have they dated my friends?

Happy Valentine’s Day to all celebrating a weird moment in capitalism where the male population rushes Target and grocery stores to panic-buy flowers and chocolate. What a weird world we inhabit. Couldn’t we just… love people and do nice things agnostic of holidays?

I digress, that’s a different newsletter entirely.

I will celebrate with a nice dinner and a few lil treats for my wife. Also looking forward to relaxing after a chaotic week (they’re all chaotic to some extent).

This got me thinking about dating apps. Dating is really, really hard given the current technology platforms, unrealistic standards, erosion of our ability to communicate, the economy, and more.

To add to this pain, there’s the job of managing your social graph. How do you make sure you aren’t broadcasting that you’re on the market to the wrong people? Even worse, how do you make sure you aren’t dating the same people?

What if there was a feature within Tinder where you could see when someone in your network has matched with someone? The ripple effects of a feature of this would be… vast. You’d be backchanneling with past dates, ignoring certain people entirely, and more.

I’m not sure it’s a good idea, but it could be helpful to vet people before you go on date.s
