Tinder screening "date"

Go out with their friend first

Modern dating seems like a nightmare. So much of our lives now happens online that the transition to “real life” is quite strange. I thankfully left the dating scene nearly a decade ago and don’t need to use any of these apps, but I empathize with people who are trying to find that special someone. There are personal and safety concerns in meeting strangers from the internet.

This got me thinking. What if there were an option on apps like Tinder where people could screen their dates by outsourcing the first point of contact to a friend (potentially one who gets fewer dates)? This already happens organically to some extent, but I could see it being an extremely popular feature that would simultaneously appease and frustrate different user bases.

I don’t think there’s a solution to the broken world we find ourselves in. We are terminally online and extremely divided as a society, and it doesn’t seem like that trend will reverse anytime soon. Maybe forcing more human contact could be unironically good, even though it wouldn’t be popular for many.
