Twitter verify W2 income

Grifters beware

Twitter is an increasingly weird platform. More than ever, I feel like I throw content onto the platform and then don’t look at my feed for most of the day. There’s just too much going on, it’s chaotic, and people are… not nice. I’m still a dialy active user, but I view myself as more of a contributor than a consumer.

If you’ve spent any time on Twitter, you’ll see people flex their income and business accomplishments. It’s a bit cringe, but it’s also a smart way to farm engagement without needing to create net-new content; you’re just pulling from the output of your normal work efforts. However, a lot of people just make stuff up. This got me thinking, what if you had to verify your W2 income to use Twitter?

This would immediately out a lot of people on the platform as grifters or flat-out liars. Considering that many people’s careers are on an upward or downward trajectory, it’d also be a lagging indicator of real-time financial success. There’s absolutely no reason to build this, but it’d be funny if someone did.
