Uber Eats dinner and a movie

An unexpected social experience

I worked at Square and Cash App for years. During my tenure, I witnessed Cash App enter a period of hyper-growth. During this time, Cash App outpaced Square and became the largest revenue driver for the business. Ironically, Uber’s revenue driver is their food delivery app, Uber Eats. It’s not surprising when you think about it. People eat more frequently than they take rides to the airport. It’s also so, so convenient.

This got me thinking about the experience of an Uber Eats user. Often, you’re at home, unwilling or incapable of cooking yourself amazing Indian food (or maybe you just want McDonald’s). If you live by yourself, this can be a lonely experience. What if it didn’t have to be? I can imagine a world where delivery drivers can ask if you want to eat together and watch a movie.

Don’t get me wrong, this would be weird, and I doubt drivers would capitalize on this unless there were a financial incentive. Or maybe everyone would start watching buddy comedies with random people they’ve never met. Who knows.
