Uber Eats dynamic tip pricing

The longer the delivery time, the lower the tip

When you order food to be delivered to you, you usually want it to be delivered quickly. I once saw a feature where you could recoup some of your cost if the delivery took longer, but I can’t remember if it was Postmates, Uber Eats, DoorDash, GoPuff, or somewhere else. Cool way to manage a clogged delivery queue though.

This got me thinking… how might we encourage couriers to deliver food as quickly as physically possible? One aggressive approach that could work would be a time-sensitive, punitive one: dynamically decrease the tip amount the longer a delivery takes to arrive.

You can imagine bikers pedaling like crazy, drivers acting like maniacs, and couriers sprinting to your door. This would be extremely unfair to the people working hard to deliver your food. However, it might also make the average delivery time a bit faster.
