Repeat eaters beware

The mobile food ordering business is now over $150B. That’s a lot of cheeseburgers. I remember the early days of DoorDash when it was a treat we ordered sometimes when working late nights at a startup. Now it’s a regular thing for busy (or stoned) people. It truly is magical to tap a few buttons and have food appear at your door.

I am a creature of habit, which means we often order from the same place (Royal Khyber, looking at you). This got me thinking… what if there were a way to incentivize repeat orders even further? I can imagine a section at the top of the home screen that pushes people to order the same thing over and over again.

This is interesting because it has utility, but it would also be anticompetitive/disincentivize people from mixing up their order. This would unfairly reward the restaurants with the most volume. I can see why they don’t do this, even though it would be useful.
