Uber group ride vow of silence

When you aren't feeling chatty

Last week I was in an Uber a few times. Typically I’m more than happy to have conversations with my fellow travelers, even the driver. However, when you’re running on 2 hours of sleep and you have to get to the airport for an early flight, having a conversation about anything does not feel like the move (yes, I’m speaking from personal experience).

This got me thinking about booking an Uber, specifically booking a group ride with others. What if there were a mandatory step where passengers all had to take a vow of silence? This would definitely set… a tone for the trip, but it’d also be a nightmare in terms of enforceability.

Sure, you could have a device in the car that detects audio and penalizes people, but it feels very, very petty for such a large company to do this. Some problems likely can’t be solved with tech I guess.
