Uber Open Mic option

Help your driver workshop their routine

As a musician, I’ve always been impressed by comedians. If you play a show and people don’t love the music, you can blame the lack of enthusiasm on the music not meshing with the crowd. However, if you are a comedian and bomb, you have no guitar to hide behind. People simply don’t like you.

This is one of many reasons I’ve opted not to pursue a comedy career. It’s competitive and building a fan base is tough, especially in the early days.

However, there are many aspiring comedians out there. A few weeks ago, I spoke with someone at an event who works in tech but is building a comedy career on the side. To their credit, they were quite funny.

This got me thinking about the need to workshop material in front of small audiences to see what jokes work. What if, instead of going to a dive bar to work on your routine, you could work as an Uber driver and try out jokes on the people you drive around?

Unfortunately, many aspiring comedians are not funny. To mitigate this, you could offer a discount to riders in exchange for them suffering through some awkward aspiring comedians. This is a bit unhinged but at the same time, I would 100% take this Uber instead of a normal one.
