United Flight Attendant Ban

Art imitates life

Yesterday, I trekked back from NY to Orange County, CA. I had intentionally allocated a couple of hours for a layover in Chicago. This would give me time to charge my devices, download my shows, and most importantly, finalize a few outstanding work items before heading into the weekend.

Then I got on my first flight. We left the gate at our scheduled time, but then we were on the runway for a very long time. I was confused about what the holdup was, and then I realized someone had gotten into a verbal fight with a flight attendant. After much deliberation. Why someone would choose to pick a fight on a plane, much less with a flight attendant, is beyond me.

After an hour and 45 minutes, the decision was made to return to our gate and kick this individual off our flight. This resulted in me casually sprinting across the Chicago airport to make my connecting flight, both my laptops dying, and me losing the case to my airpods.

All of the got me thinking… what if flight attendants could band together and decide who to kick off planes? This would make the decision process faster than bringing in external security people, and it’d force people to be polite to flight attendants.

Of course, you could take some cookies or pretzels as a parting gift.
