United show pilot health stats

"Sorry, what were you saying?"

I saw something on Twitter a few weeks ago (who knows if it’s true) that talked about someone’s flight being delayed because someone in first class complained that they thought the pilot “sounded drunk” which caused everyone to have to deplane so he could be tested. I have no idea if this is true or not, but I could totally see this happening, which would be a nightmare.

This got me thinking about pilots more broadly. What if there were a way for us to get real time visibility into their vitals? You could imagine being able to see things like step county, heart rate, and more depending on the wearable tech that have on.

This is one of those ideas that would in theory put people at easy or give them a lot of anxiety. Maybe there’s a version of this where the data is available to internal teams, but imagine if you saw your pilot was doing a pub crawl the night before your flight. It’d be a bit anxiety inducing to say the least.
